Dear friends in RLL:

In connection with the ongoing graduate seminar (Spanish 281r) on "New Worlds of Early Modern Spanish Poetry", and through the Hispanic Cultures Seminar of the Mahindra Humanities Center, we have put together an informal colloquium scheduled for this FRIDAY, APRIL 11th, 2-4, in the Kresge Room (114 Barker Center).

The colloquium will feature three speakers who are present or recent members of the department and whose scholarly projects share a focus on concepts of poetic creation in 16th- and 17th-century poetry.  They are:

ANTONIO ARRAIZA (RLL) whose title is "De la voz a la escritura: Garcilaso de la Vega y Francisco Manuel de Melo".

FELIPE VALENCIA (Ph.D., Brown Univ., 2013; Assistant Professor at Swarthmore

College) who will speak on "The Melancholy of Voice and Genre in Gongora's "Soledades".

ANDREW GRAY (Ph.D., Harvard, 2013), speaking on poetic creation and creators in the works of Calderon de la Barca.

We invite all those interested in the theme of the colloquium and in learning more about the work of these gifted colleagues to join us for refreshments and a lively discussion.
