SCREENING AND FILM DISCUSSION This documentary tells the story of the Spanish-speaking Sephardic Jews from the island of Rhodes that arrived to Los Angeles in the first half of the 20th century and established a community in the area around 55th St and Hoover, in South Central Los Angeles. Filled with seldom seen movie footage and previously unpublished archival photographs the film depicts the reality of minority language decline and loss as a condition of the modern world. The screening will be followed by a film discussion with professors Luis Girón, Javier Pueyo and Andrés Enrique-Arias. Co-hosted by the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures
