Use a challenging text as raw material for art projects and turn reluctant readers into fans of difficult literature. Pre-Texts trains teachers to be facilitators for artistic practices of "appropriating" (stealing) from other artists, including good writers. When classic texts become recycling material, students acquire cultural capital along with the expanded vocabulary and grammar that conventional schooling values but seldom achieves. Enthusiastic institutions offer year-long opportunities for "Texters," (Tejedores, Tecelões) in Mexico (in English and Spanish), Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Brazil to support local teacher training over the next academic year.
