Virtual Reality and Authentic Cultural Immersion

Date:

Tuesday, October 9, 2018, 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Location:

Cabot Science Library, Harvard University, 1 Oxford Street, Cambridge, MA 02138
Hear about the role virtual reality narratives play in foreign language pedagogy in Harvard's classrooms. Nicole Mills, Senior Preceptor in Romance Languages and Literatures at Harvard, and Rus Gant, VR Technology Specialist, speak about their collaboration in "Beginning French II: Exploring Parisian Life and Identity." As part of this project, Parisians were hired to record their lives with a VR camera for 1-2 months, allowing language learners to have perceptual, empathetic, and culturally immersive experiences in multiple sensory modalities. After the talk, take part in a hands-on demo with VR headsets.
