Portuguese and Brazilian Studies

The concentration in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies acquaints students with the Portuguese language and the Portuguese-speaking world's diverse cultures, histories, literatures, and societies, covering regions from Brazil and Portugal to Lusophone Africa and Asia, exploring their rich complexities, global connections, and unique perspectives through art, politics, and daily life.


Courses Taken for Concentration Credit

Concentrators in Portuguese take twelve courses (48 units, each course equals 4 units). 
Honors concentrators take fourteen courses (56 units).

Any substitution for equivalent courses below must be approved by the Advisor for Portuguese and Brazilian Studies or the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

Courses taken for concentration credit may not be taken Pass/Fail (with the exception of an approved First-Year Seminar).
